House Passes Bill to Lower Prices and Address Supply Chain Challenges

House Democrats send Ocean Shipping Reform Act to President Biden’s Desk

Last night, House Democrats passed another bill to help ease supply chain challenges, address inflation, and lower prices for Americans. 42 Republicans voted against the bill.

The Ocean Shipping Reform Act will:

  • Stop international ocean carriers from unreasonably declining American cargo and ensure more American exports are on outgoing ships.
  • Improve transparency on exports by requiring international ocean carriers to report how many empty containers are being transported.
  • Stop retaliation by international shipping companies against exporters and importers.
  • And grant the Federal Maritime Commission temporary emergency authority to collect data during times of emergency congestion, and make other improvements.

This bill will head to President Biden’s desk for signature and it joins the long list of bills House Democrats have passed to address inflation and high prices:

  • House Democrats passed a bill to stop companies from gouging gas prices. 193 Republicans voted NO.
  • House Democrats passed legislation to cap the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 per month. 207 Republicans voted NO.
  • House Democrats passed a bill to help get more baby formula on shelves. 192 Republicans voted NO.
  • House Democrats passed the America COMPETES Act, a bill that will boost our competitiveness with China and reduce prices by strengthening our supply chains, addressing some of the biggest bottlenecks, and bringing more manufacturing back to the U.S. 210 Republicans voted NO.
  • The historic Infrastructure Deal that President Biden signed into law to improve our nation’s infrastructure will ease inflation while upgrading our ports, airports, and roadways. 206 Republicans voted NO.

“The Democratic party is the only party in Washington working to curb costs and address the challenges Americans face,” said DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia. “At the expense of American consumers, Republicans continue to prove that they want voters to pay higher prices so they can have political talking points.”
