House Republicans Bolster Billionaires and Slash Medicare in Dangerous Budget

Today, Republicans on the House Budget Committee passed their partisan budget proposal. Their new far-right budget pushes dangerous policies that would harm working families, seniors, and give massive handouts to billionaires.

Chief among these attacks: massive cuts to critical health care programs like Medicare, totaling over half a trillion dollars over ten years.

Their far-right budget would also:

  • Extend the massive tax cuts for the wealthy that ballooned the deficit

  • Make it easier for tax cheats to avoid paying their fair share

  • Cut nearly $1 trillion from income security programs like SNAP and TANF that feed hungry kids

  • Cut hundreds of billions from the Highway Trust Fund, leaving communities with crumbling roads and bridges

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“With this budget proposal, extreme House Republicans are once again telling the American people how little they care about fighting for them. Instead of working to find common ground to help working families, Republicans are giving in to the most far-right fringes of their party, pushing a budget that would result in higher poverty and leave millions without health coverage – all to pay for more tax cuts to the wealthy and well-connected. It’s this out-of-touch agenda that voters will reject this November.”
