Despite the fact that the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion has been protected by decades of legal precedent, extremist Republicans haven’t relented in their harmful and radical attacks on women’s freedoms and reproductive rights — at the courts, in our statehouses, and in the halls of Congress.
Now, as the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Texas’ draconian six-week abortion ban — a radical attack on women’s livelihoods and freedoms — voters will see just how Republicans’ extremism has chipped away at abortion access and led us to this moment, where the protections of Roe v. Wade hang in the balance.
This dangerous, near-total abortion ban leaves millions of women — particularly low-income women and women of color — without access to a safe, legal abortion and greenlights a bounty on anyone who helps women get one. From the extremists in state legislatures passing laws like Texas’, to the extremists in Congress pushing the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and end access to safe, legal abortion in this country, Republicans are an existential threat to women’s freedoms and health care.
