House Republicans’ First Bill Set to Increase Deficit $114 Billion

According to a new CBO report, House Republicans’ first piece of legislation, which seeks to fire and hamstring the hiring of federal employees who crack down on tax cheats, will increase the federal deficit by $114 billion over the next decade. Today, every Republican present voted to pass it.

For months, Republicans sought to villainize those who work for the agency that ensures wealthy tax cheats pay their fair share, in an effort to scare tax-paying, law-abiding middle class families and small businesses into thinking they would be audited. Despite numerous fact checks correcting their false claims, Republicans continued their lies and have made their first bill in the majority one that:

  • Helps the top 1% evade and cheat their taxes

  • Delays tax returns for people who pay their taxes

  • Fires and restricts the hiring of everyday workers

  • And is set to increase the federal deficit by $114 billion

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Allowing tax cheats to avoid responsibility, trying to fire thousands of men and women, and increasing the federal deficit $114 billion in their first bill is one heck of a starting message from House Republicans.”
