House Republicans In Chaos With Little Over A Month Before 118th Congress Begins

Republicans will be forced to govern under difficult, narrow margins in just over a month from now, but Americans are already seeing how dysfunctional and chaotic the GOP caucus is. Over the past week, we’ve seen:

  • Kevin McCarthy make bargains with the most extreme flanks of the Republican party to scrape together enough support in his run for House speaker,

  • Multiple House Republicans already come out strongly against McCarthy’s speakership bid with “solid” nos,

  • Dozens of Republicans avoid condemning Donald Trump for dining with known white supremacist Nick Fuentes, who has already met with Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene,

  • GOP plan to prioritize politically motivated investigations and impeachment instead of growing and strengthening the economy,

  • And McCarthy’s ally and GOP powerbroker Marjorie Taylor Greene attack a sitting state senator with a homophobic and violence-inciting tweet less than two days after the mass shooting hate crime in Colorado Springs.
