House Republicans Introduce Bill to Make It Easier For Pharmacies to Withhold Potentially Life-Saving Medication

Lead GOP sponsor wants bill to “signal the party’s hoped-for future direction”

Today, House Republicans are introducing a bill that would make it easier for pharmacies to refuse to provide medication they suspect could be used to terminate a pregnancy. These same medications are often used to treat miscarriages and auto-immune diseases like lupus, Crohn’s and rheumatoid arthritis. Already, patients in some states have been unable to access their essential medication as a result of Republicans’ extreme anti-abortion laws –  and now House Republicans want to pass a bill that could make that the reality for millions of women nationwide.

This latest attack on women’s health care comes just one day after more than 80 House Republicans introduced a nationwide abortion ban. As if there were any doubt as to what Republicans would do if they retake the majority, the lead GOP sponsor of today’s bill “said he wants to signal the party’s hoped-for future direction” – one in which Republicans stop at nothing to take away Americans’ freedom over their own health care decisions.

DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla:
“Republicans are making their agenda crystal clear: if they take the majority, they will not stop until we have no reproductive freedom left.”
