House Republicans’ “Midterm Message” Is Getting Hosed By The War In Iran

Gas prices are up, Republicans’ odds of keeping the majority are down

House Republicans have an Iran War problem. After voting in lockstep with the Trump administration to continue their reckless war of choice, Republicans are now panicking that the conflict will spoil their midterm message — whatever that is these days.

On the campaign trail, Speaker Mike Johnson is trapped by a crisis of his own creation:

In ColoradoJohnson “and one of his endangered freshmen, Rep. Gabe Evans, gave a joint interview to Shaun Boyd” where he said “the economy was beginning to take off like a rocket. And then we got into the skirmish with Iran. That’s what the prices are related to.”

In Arizona: “Johnson argued that his colleagues could brag about ‘the return of American energy dominance and the return of peace through strength.’ But that answer just raised more questions. If energy production is thriving, why are we paying so much for gas?

In Virginia: “with Republican Rep. Jen Kiggans, he was asked again about gas prices and the war. ‘The Iran conflict has been the cause, of course, of gas prices going up. It’s drug on,’ he conceded.”

DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Mike Johnson wanted an August victory lap, but instead he’s on an apology tour. House Republicans lit the match on a reckless war in Iran, and now voters are the ones getting burned at the pump. It’s no wonder Johnson’s chances of keeping the majority are going up in smoke.”
