While leaving the Capitol after a long two-day work week, Troy Nehls unveiled House Republicans’ surf and turf agenda for the Fourth of July, proclaiming that nobody cares about high energy prices and that House Republicans work harder than most Americans.
When pressed on whether 60% of Americans could afford lobster and rib-eyes, Nehls responded, “maybe the 60% of America[ns] don’t work as hard as I do.”
Reality Check: House Republicans left work early again on Tuesday for another taxpayer-funded vacation after failing to get anything done on behalf of the American people. Meanwhile, Fourth of July festivities are costing Americans 10% more this year thanks to the GOPs’ broken promise to lower costs, and electricity costs are expected to hit a record high this summer.
DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“House Republicans are too busy ordering surf and turf to care that they’ve completely butchered the U.S. economy. The suggestion that Republicans work harder than most Americans is as laughable as it is insulting. They’re buttering themselves up for a wipeout this November.”
