House Republicans Privately Scheme to Make MORE Medicaid Cuts

Since passage earlier this summer for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to fund massive tax breaks for their billionaire donors, so-called moderate House Republicans have continually lied about their vote. In one embarrassing case, several vulnerable Republicans introduced a half-assed measure to “preserve and strengthen” Medicaid after voting to gut it. In a likely effort to avoid explaining their vote to constituents, Republicans in swing districts have refused to hold in-person town halls.

Yet, House Republicans are ignoring the backlash (and polling), choosing instead to privately scheme with the chief architect of these deep Medicaid cuts to map out a second mega-bill. Staff for the 189-Member Republican Study Committee will meet with Brian Blase, president of the Paragon Health Institute and a top official who pushed for significant Medicaid cuts in the Big, Ugly Law, according to Politico.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The so-called moderate Republicans will do whatever their D.C. Party Bosses tell them to, even if that means betraying working class families in their communities to make even deeper cuts to Medicaid in order to give more tax breaks to the ultra-rich.”

REMINDER: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that millions of Americans will lose access to their health care as a result of the Big, Ugly Law. Hospitals are at risk of closing, nursing homes could shut down, and health care costs will rise for millions of people.
