The United States just crossed 123,000 Americans killed by the Coronavirus and regions across the country are experiencing new spikes in infections. But instead of calling for an increase in testing, Washington republicans are standing by silently as the White House plans to end federal funding and support for coronavirus testing sites at the end of June.
CNBC: “This all comes at a time after the President had stoked some controversy, by suggesting at a rally last weekend that he wanted to slow testing down in this country. The President’s aides immediately came out after and said, ‘no, no, no, the president is just joking, that’s tongue-and-cheek,’. The president then corrected his aides and said ‘I don’t kid’. He’s tweeted and said, a number of times over the past several days that he views testing as a doubled-edged sword, [sic] that he sees the result of testing as an increase in cases and he doesn’t like to see that increase.”
This follows after House Republicans went silent and stared at their shoes as President Trump bragged that he ordered his aides to slow down COVID-19 testing for his own political gain.
DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor:
“House Republicans are putting politics before critical COVID-19 testing that could save millions of Americans lives. When will House Republicans realize that the lives of their constituents are more precious than the political value of silently falling in line with the reckless COVID response from the Trump administration?”
