How Will House Republicans Beth Van Duyne and Tony Gonzales Vote in Secret Ballot to Choose QAnon Conspiracies Over Truth?

GOP Reps. Beth Van Duyne and Tony Gonzales won’t let their voters know their choice in shameless effort to oust Rep. Liz Cheney from leadership for telling the truth
Just days after GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney did the bare minimum and refused to promote the Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, House Republicans shamelessly began their effort to replace her as the Number 3 Republican in the caucus. In her place, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has propped up Rep. Elise Stefanik, a Trump loyalist who peddles dangerous conspiracies about the results of the election.

While Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) bought into the Big Lie and objected to certifying the presidential election – even though Trump lost in her own district – Tony Gonzales (TX-23) broke with his fellow Republicans when he voted to confirm that the 2020 presidential election was won by Joe Biden. This week, both Texas Republicans will be hiding behind a secret ballot in a vote to oust Cheney for refusing to lie. Voters deserve to know: Will GOP Reps. Beth Van Duyne and Tony Gonzales decide to punish Rep. Cheney for voicing the truth?

It’s clear that in order to succeed in the House GOP, members must promote dangerous conspiracies like the ones that caused the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

DCCC Spokesperson, Monica Robinson

“It’s increasingly obvious that there is only room in the House Republican caucus for people who will continue to promote Trump’s Big Lie and put our democracy at risk. This vote tells the American people that McCarthy and Republicans would rather punish Rep. Cheney for telling the truth about our elections than denounce Marjorie Taylor Greene’s racist white supremacist caucus or Matt Gaetz’s credibly alleged sex trafficking crimes. GOP Reps. Beth Van Duyne and Tony Gonzales owe it to Texans to let them know which side they stand on.”
