Hundreds of NY-17 Constituents Condemn Lawler For Courting “Anti-Democracy” Radicals

Hudson Valley residents are slamming Lawler’s decision to attend GOP retreat with the disgraced former president

Voters in the Hudson Valley made clear this week that they’re holding Mike Lawler accountable for his baffling decision to join extremists at a donor retreat headlined by Donald Trump today, calling out Lawler’s “willingness to stand beside those so firmly committed to anti-democracy policies.”

The hundreds of constituents who called on Lawler to back out of the retreat clarified for the increasingly vulnerable Republican that “Trump does not represent our values” and are demanding Lawler “make it clear whether he represents yours or not.”

This letter is just the latest proof that after 100 days of pushing the GOP’s dangerous and out-of-touch agenda, Lawler has failed to earn the trust of his district.

This comes after Lawler has recently been met with multiple protests pushing back against his party’s dangerous threats to cut Social Security and Medicare.

DCCC spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“Mike Lawler has proven time and time again he’s willing to bend over backwards to support his extreme party leaders and wealthy donors, but can’t be bothered to support his own constituents. It’s clear Hudson Valley voters have had enough of Lawler’s failed leadership.”

300 Constituents Ask Mike Lawler to Back Out of Trump Donor Event

April 13, 2023

Rep. Lawler,

It has come to our attention that this Friday, you plan to attend a Republican National Committee donor retreat headlined by Donald Trump in Nashville. This comes shortly after Donald Trump was indicted in criminal court and two Democrats were expelled from the Tennessee legislature for exercising their First Amendment rights.

Your willingness to appear with a former President who incited an insurrection against our democracy, at a donor retreat in a state currently experiencing its own democratic crisis, is extremely worrying. We are worried about the future of democracy in this country and are concerned by your willingness to stand beside those so firmly committed to anti-democracy policies.

We are asking that you choose not to attend this donor retreat and publicly reject the authoritarian, anti-democracy campaign currently being waged by Donald Trump.

We are constituents of New York’s 17th Congressional District who represent the diversity of our communities and come from all corners of the district. Donald Trump does not represent our values and we ask that you make it clear whether he represents yours or not.
