Washington Republicans prioritize tax handouts for billionaires and corporate special interests over investments in our roads, bridges, rail systems and school construction projects
As Democrats work across the aisle to deliver a job-creating, wage-boosting, robust infrastructure package, Washington Republicans are pouring cold water on making meaningful investments in America’s infrastructure.
In one series of particularly hot takes, the Senate’s #2 Republican, John Thune, called a $2 trillion infrastructure package “a big tax increase.” Then, this morning, he added that it would “have to be paid for entirely to pass the GOP Senate.”
This is quite an eyebrow raising position for the Washington Republicans considering they passed a Tax Scam bill that added $2 trillion to the federal debt and ushered in a new era of trillion-dollar deficits. Meanwhile big corporations and billionaires are making off like bandits while middle-class families got stuck with a tax hike.
“It’s telling that Washington Republicans think we can’t afford a $2 trillion wage-boosting infrastructure package after they raised the national debt by that same amount to give tax handouts to billionaires and corporate special interests,” said DCCC Communications Director Jared Smith. “The difference in our priorities couldn’t be clearer – Democrats are working across the aisle to invest in our roads, bridges, schools and transportation infrastructure while Washington Republicans are working for their special interest backers.”
