Topeka Capital-Journal: “[Davids’] opponent, businessperson Amanda Adkins, was vocal in support of the amendment, and Reeves said this would be a major issue, not just in suburban Johnson County but also in other area counties, such as Miami and Franklin, which are now in the 3rd District.”
New York Times: “Davids’ district was once a moderate Republican stronghold, but it has been trending toward Democrats in recent years. Her reelection contest in November in a redrawn district may be one of the most competitive House races in the country, and party strategists expect the abortion debate to play an important role in districts like hers that include swaths of upscale suburbs.”
Kansas City Star: “With Tuesday’s result, where ‘No’ votes outnumbered ‘Yes’ votes in Franklin County and Miami County — rural counties in Davids’ redrawn district that former President Donald Trump won with about 68% of the vote in 2020 — Democrats are even more inclined to lean into the issue.”
Roll Call: “The Kansas vote also may have buoyed the chances of the state’s lone Democrat in Congress, Rep. Sharice Davids. Her Republican challenger, Amanda Adkins, supported the ballot referendum…67 percent of voters in the 3rd District voted against the referendum, according to data from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.”
