As IA-03 Mayors Ask for Help, Does David Young Support “Pause” In Local Aid?

As everyday Iowans are forced to make difficult decisions about how they’ll support their families in the days, weeks, and months to come, mayors across the state are asking for additional funding to help support their communities.

While Representative Cindy Axne announced bipartisan legislation this week to get much-needed resources into the hands of local governments, rejected Congressman David Young has been silent on whether he supports the White House’s decision to “pause” future aid to states and local communities.

As a reminder, state and local governments employ 13 percent of the U.S. workforce, such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters. Analysts say failing to provide them aid is ”a recipe for turning a potentially short recession into a prolonged depression.”

“Mayors are at the tip of the spear when it comes to supporting the teachers, firefighters and first responders who are on the frontline of fighting this pandemic. While Representative Cindy Axne is working hard to get mayors the resources they need, rejected Congressman David Young’s refusal to say whether he would do the same shows Iowans that once again, when it matters most, Young can’t be trusted to stand up to his party in Washington,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
