In case you missed it, the crowded Republican primary in Iowa’s Third Congressional District just got even messier as National Republicans are highlighting extremist Nicole Hasso as a Young Gun On The Radar after previously favoring Zach Nunn.
Hasso’s support from Washington party leaders comes as Nunn’s campaign is going nowhere fast and failing to take off. Nunn was previously added to the same highlighted list in October, but has since been flailing with disappointing fundraising numbers and a failure to gain support. As Iowa commentator Bleeding Heartland noted, “I would never have guessed that any Congressional candidate would raise less money in the months after being endorsed by the NRCC… there is clearly some resistance to his candidacy.”
“It’s clear the IA-03 Republicans’ weak primary field is wide open and messier than ever, as Hasso, Nunn, and Leffler struggle their way through the primary,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Count on this Republican primary to only get nastier as the GOP candidates will prove themselves unelectable and drained of resources come fall.”
