Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is fighting to lower costs for Southwest Washington families, including prescription drug prices. It’s no wonder Big Pharma is funding shady ads against Gluesenkamp Perez; they know she sides with Washingtonians who want more low-cost choices, not pharmaceutical CEOs who want to pad their pockets at the expense of patients.
[The attack ads are] produced by a conservative advocacy nonprofit called the American Action Network, a dark-money group backed by Big Pharma and a sister nonprofit to Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC dedicated to electing Republicans to the House of Representatives.
The blond woman in the American Action Network video is featured in identical attack ads against other Democratic House representatives airing across 30 congressional districts.
Although the American Action Network is not required to disclose its donors, tax records show the nonprofit is indeed backed by Big Pharma. The lobbyist group Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America gave the American Action Network $7.5 million in 2022 and $3.5 million in 2023.
Tim Gowen, a campaign manager for Perez, said the ad is an attempt by national Republican groups to mislead and divide voters.
“Marie is focused on commonsense, bipartisan solutions that uphold our commitments to seniors without exploding the national debt or raising costs for medications,” Gowen said. “Voters in Southwest Washington want their values represented in D.C., not D.C. politics forced on them, and they’re going to see right through these smears.”
