ICYMI: Another Texas Paper Rejects Donald Trump

With 62 days until the election, Will Hurd still hasn’t ruled out the idea of voting for Trump

Another Texas paper endorsed Hillary Clinton for president over the Republican Party’s standard bearer, Donald Trump. The Dallas Morning News, which hasn’t endorsed a Democrat in over 75 years, said: “he [Trump] plays on fear — exploiting base instincts of xenophobia, racism and misogyny — to bring out the worst in all of us, rather than the best. His serial shifts on fundamental issues reveal an astounding absence of preparedness. And his improvisational insults and midnight tweets exhibit a dangerous lack of judgment and impulse control.”

This endorsement comes a few months after another Texas publication, the Houston Chronicle, endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump: “Any one of Trump’s less-than-sterling qualities – his erratic temperament, his dodgy business practices, his racism, his Putin-like strongman inclinations and faux-populist demagoguery, his contempt for the rule of law, his ignorance – is enough to be disqualifying.”

Despite these endorsements and a new Washington Post poll that shows Hillary is beating Trump in Texas, one of the nation’s most vulnerable Republicans, Will Hurd, hasn’t ruled out of the idea of voting for Trump for president this November.

“Will Hurd has a math problem and he knows it. He can’t alienate his Republican base because without them he can’t win back his district, and that is why he is prolonging his answer on whether or not he’s voting for Trump this November,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Texas voters deserve a leader with a backbone that will stand up and fight for them and in this heavily Hispanic district, Will Hurd is far from doing that.”
