ICYMI: Backroom Bruce Poliquin Attends Trump Meeting in DC … But Won’t Admit It

How far will Backroom Bruce Poliquin go to avoid questions about Donald Trump? Well, he won’t even admit to meeting with Trump yesterday in DC, even after a reporter caught him leaving.
Portland Press Herald: “Poliquin camp won’t say whether he attended Trump meeting”
Key points: A spokesman for Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-2nd District, refused to say whether he was among the more than 200 Republican members of Congress who met with Donald Trump in Washington on Thursday.

“But according to a Washington, D.C.-based reporter, Poliquin was at the scene.”

Bangor Daily News: “Why won’t Poliquin say he went to a meeting with Donald Trump?”

Key Points: “But Poliquin has gone into contortions to avoid any public discussion of Trump.”

“But Poliquin’s tack hasn’t changed, so we don’t expect it to now. It’ll be a question of how much more awkward this evasion will get.”
“Backroom Bruce Poliquin is now willing to mislead his own constituents in an attempt to evade the reality that he is on the Trump ticket,”
said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “By hiding under his desk instead of answering basic questions on important issues, Poliquin demonstrates that he is willing to put his own political future over Maine’s future.”

This isn’t the first time Poliquin has hid under his desk, it’s a pattern. Here are some more examples:

  • Poliquin refused to commenton racist remarks made by his mentor, Governor Paul LePage.
  • Poliquin awkwardly refusedto confirm or deny that former House Speaker John Boehner had organized a fundraiser for him on Mount Desert Island.
  • Poliquin’s “uncomfortable pause” on Donald Trump – in which Poliquin ran for an elevator instead of answering a simple question about his own party’s presumptive presidential nominee.
  • Poliquin shamefully dodged a simple question on whether or not he supported the Governor’s Narcan veto.
