ICYMI: Bipartisan House Ethics Committee Votes Unanimously to Renew Investigation into Congressman Hunter

All The While, Hunter Is Exposed For Parroting Russian-Trump Linked Lobbyist

In case you missed it, the House Ethics Committee announced Friday that it has voted unanimously to reauthorize a bipartisan investigation into Hunter’s potentially illegal handling of $250,000 in campaign funds from 2009 through 2016.

As the San Diego Union-Tribune hasreported, the ongoing inquiry and criminal charges by the Justice Department “brings to at least $739,000 [in] legal bills paid by the [Hunter] campaign” — nearly bankrupting his re-election bid and bringing in his lowest fundraising quarter in over a decade.

The news follows revelations from over the weekend that according to a government watchdog group, Hunter parroted a Russian-tied lobbyist who attended the notorious Trump Tower meeting, when advocating on behalf of a fugitive accused of stealing millions of dollars from the government of Kazakhstan. On April 2nd, Hunter submitted a statement “into Congressional Record that was almost identical to the suggested language in FARA disclosures, with the vast majority copied word-for-word,” from the Russian-Trump tied lobbyist.

“While Hunter’s history of ethical failures has resulted in a renewed House Ethics Committee inquiry, being stripped of all committee assignments by his Congressional colleagues, and a 60-count criminal indictment by the Justice Department, Hunter can’t seem to stop showing his twisted priorities take precedent over serving his district,” said DCCC Spokesperson, Andy Orellana. “Congressman Hunter’s widespread corruption and legal problems jeopardize his ability to do the job hardworking San Diegans elected him to do and is emblematic of exactly what voters hate about Washington.”

The House will be checking to see whether Hunter’s conduct violated its official code of conduct, but will be delaying its other aspects of the investigation until after the criminal trial ends. Hunter’s criminal trial is scheduled for September. In the meantime, Hunter has been stripped of all committee assignments and none of Hunter’s bills has ever reached a vote on the House floor.
