ICYMI: California Republicans Support National Abortion Ban

Today, the LA Times reported that more than half of California’s Republican delegation support a national abortion ban; namely vulnerable incumbents Michelle Steel, Mike Garcia and David Valadao. All three co-sponsored the Life At Conception Act, which would override California’s existing abortion protections and ban abortion nationwide without exceptions for rape or when the life of the patient is at risk.

Witnessing voter backlash across the country, Steel and Garcia have now cynically attempted to shift their position on abortion, claiming they would support exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or when a woman’s life is in danger. Meanwhile, Valadao refused to directly answer the question for his constituents.

DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“One year ago, extreme Republicans David Valadao, Michelle Steel and Mike Garcia were crystal clear in supporting a nationwide ban without exceptions. Now, as they see their re-election chances slipping away thanks to their own toxic record, these cynical and cowardly politicians are lying to their constituents. Voters only need to look at these extremists’ congressional records to know Valadao, Steel and Garcia are a threat to Californians’ rights.”
