ICYMI: Congressman Hagedorn: “Nobody (in America) goes to sleep at night wondering if they’ll be able to feed their families”

Hagedorn’s comments are just the most recent example of his disconnect with hardworking Minnesotans

Proving yet again that he is the worst kind of out-of-touch politician, Congressman Jim Hagedorn last week declared that “Nobody (in America) goes to sleep at night wondering if they’ll be able to feed their families.”

Congressman Hagedorn’s claim not only fails to acknowledge the reality of the thousands of Minnesota families living below the poverty line — it’s the latest example of just how woefully out of step Hagedorn is with his constituents. As MinnPost reported last week, the Congressman has been a vocal supporter of the Trump Administration’s trade war, which is crippling the district’s agricultural economy. Hagedorn – whose district’s economy is also largely driven by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester — was the only member of the Minnesota delegation not to sign on to a letter opposing federal funding cuts that would put coverage for more than 80,0000 Minnesotans who rely on MinnesotaCare at risk.

Hagedorn’s inability to recognize the challenges faced by working class Minnesotans should come as no surprise. A creature of the Washington swamp, Hagedorn called the D.C. area home for over 25 years before returning to Minnesota to become a perennial candidate. Since being sworn in, he has yet to hold a single town hall to listen to the concerns of his constituents.

“Time and again, Washington Republican Jim Hagedorn is showing how shamefully out of touch he is with the needs of southern Minnesotans,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren. “Whether it’s on health care, trade, or their bank accounts, Minnesota families deserve a representative who actually understands the challenges they face.”
