Instead of helping constituents impacted by flooding, King disparages New Orleans Katrina victims
Yesterday morning, notoriously racist Congressman Steve King was called out by a scathing local editorial for being “notably absent from the discussion” about devastating floods impacting more than half of the counties in his district. Instead, the editorial continued, Congressman King chose to “embarrass Iowans with inflammatory rhetoric” about the Civil War.
Unfortunately, when King finally did comment on the flooding impacting his constituents, he just couldn’t help but infuse his remarks with racist stereotypes. According to a report from the Huffington Post, “At a town hall on Thursday, white supremacist Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) claimed he was told that New Orleans flood victims only ever asked for help, unlike Iowans who ‘take care of each other.’”
“Congressman Steve King doesn’t represent Iowa values, and he shows it every chance he gets,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren. “Hardworking Iowans deserve better than a representative who is too busy sympathizing with neo-Nazis and white supremacists to have their backs.”
