U.S. Bancorp and Nomura Holdings join growing list of corporate donors to drop financial support for Garrett in aftermath of anti-LGBT comments, Bloomberg Businessweek reports
The fallout continues as corporate donors abandon Scott Garrett in the aftermath of making headlines this past summer for trying to prevent LGBT candidates from getting elected to office.
Here’s a refresher:
- Following Garrett’s comments in July, Bloomberg reported shortly after that Goldman Sachs “has decided to stop making political action committee donations to Garrett.”
 - In October, BBVA Compass told The Record, “After learning of U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett’s views … the BBVA Compass PAC decided it will no longer contribute to the congressman.”
 - Over the holidays, The Record reported that Capitol One announced that they had “no plans to contribute to Congressman Garrett in the future.”
 - Now, Bloomberg Businessweek is reporting that S. Bancorp and Nomura Holdings are dropping their support for Garrett. According to the latest story, “When contacted by Bloomberg Businessweekto ask about their rationale for sticking with Garrett, U.S. Bancorp and Nomura both said they would cease donations.”

“Scott Garrett’s hateful views and pro-discrimination record against LGBT Americans continue to create a PR nightmare for his corporate donors – and embarrass North Jersey in the process,” said Bryan Lesswing. “By taking his bigotry out of the closet, Garrett continues to lose more of his corporate donors – and by extension his chances of keeping his seat this November. The question is: who will be the next to stand up to bigotry and drop Scott Garrett?”
