After Washington Republicans like former Congressman David Young established a heartless tax hike on the benefits received by Gold Star families through their 2017 tax law, Rep. Cindy Axne is co-sponsoring a bill that would reverse it. The fix Axne is pushing passed the House last week with overwhelmingly bipartisan support and would roll back the tax increase.
Meanwhile, a new analysis has exposed the economic impact of Young’s tax scam. Spoiler alert: its promise to help middle class Iowans fell flat. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, the tax law had little “if any” impact on GDP while failing to increase wages for ordinary workers and exploding the deficit – threatening cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
“The contrast is clear – while David Young voted to increase taxes on grieving Gold Star families, Rep. Cindy Axne is working to bring them relief,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren. “He can run for Congress again, but no matter how hard he tries, Young can’t run from his record of raising taxes and health care costs on hardworking Iowans.”
