A former employee at the Office of the Richmond County District Attorney pleaded guilty Monday to stealing more than $440,000 in government funds, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.

William Nelson used two RCDA American Express credit cards to purchase items like jewelry, video games, knives, flights and lodging from 2006 to 2016, according to the release from the office of U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Richard P. Donoghue.

The 44-year-old Great Kills resident, who worked as procurement director for the RCDA, also used PayPal to transfer thousands from the credit cards to his own bank accounts.

The majority of Nelson’s employment was under the administration of current U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan.

 Nelson served as procurement director until May 2016, when he was removed during the transition to Michael McMahon’s administration, and placed in the position of procurement analyst, a position he held until his resignation in December 2016.
