ICYMI: DREAMers and Concerned Constituents Rally to #defendDACA & Hold House Republicans Accountable on Immigration Record

This week, the nation watched in disgust as President Trump again apologized for and excused the racist white supremacists who rallied in Charlottesville over the weekend. Meanwhile, thousands of DREAMers, concerned constituents, faith and local leaders rallied outside of Republican Representatives’ offices throughout the country to demand the protection of DACA and to hold House Republicans accountable for their hypocritical immigration records.

… and comments like these were echoed throughout the events:

“Steve Knight has not been voting in our favor,” CHILRA Political Director Apolonio Morales said. “He is just going to willfully deport his constituents and not provide permanent solutions. This affects families in your own backyard.”

“He [David Valadao] said he supports DACA, he supports the Bridge Act, but at the same time in 2015 he also signed on to a house resolution that was against expanding DACA and against providing protection for undocumented parents,” said Marichel Mejia, civil engagement organizer for the United Farm Workers Foundation.

“Vulnerable House Republicans like to think that they can have it both way when it comes to immigration, but they are dead wrong,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Latinos across the country can see right through House Republicans’ lip service on immigration, and are instead paying attention to their votes against DACA and other bills that tear families apart. This week it’s clear that voters across the country are ready to replace House Republicans with leaders who will actually fight for our communities and comprehensive immigration reform in 2018.”
