Paulsen: “People are tired of single-issue politics”
Terri Bonoff and Erik Paulsen met for the final time Sunday night at a live televised debate, and Erik Paulsen was finally forced to defend his anti-choice, anti-LGBT, and anti-gun safety record.
But when Bonoff asked Paulsen why he believes that Roe v. Wade should be overturned, why he voted to defund Planned Parenthood, why he tried to ban same-sex marriage, and why he continually blocks common-sense gun violence prevention measures, Paulsen replied, dismissively:
“She wants to talk about divisive issues. I think people are tired of single-issue politics.”
Watch his response below:
With this glib response, Erik Paulsen single-handedly dismissed gay rights advocates, women’s health advocates, and victims of gun violence as “single-issue” voters, and proved that his ideology is far from the image of a moderate he tries to present of himself.
In fact, Paulsen has:
Declared that he wants to overturn Roe v. Wade
Been recognized for votes that would ban same-sex marriage
Voted to defund Planned Parenthood
Voted with his party 26 times against common-sense gun safety measures
Said he wasn’t “smart enough” to know whether climate change is man-made.
“It’s no wonder that for months Erik Paulsen avoided interviews and refused to debate Terri Bonoff, because last night he was forced to defend his record of voting against a woman’s right to choose, a person’s right to get married, gun violence prevention, and the environment,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “Last night, voters in Minnesota’s 3rd District saw Erik Paulsen for what he truly is: a wolf in moderate’s clothing, and they will punish him for his extreme partisan record at the polls.”
