ICYMI: Gianforte’s Russian Investments Shake Up Montana Special Election

“Montana voters rejected Greg Gianforte’s out-of-touch politics last year and that was before they knew about his previously undisclosed investments in Russian companies that are currently under United States government sanctions,” said DCCC spokesperson Patrick Burgwinkle. “Montana voters are right to question Gianforte’s ability to put America’s interests ahead of his own financial interests.”

Please see below for a roundup of local coverage Greg Gianforte’s Russian investments have received since Saturday:

“The leading candidates for Montana’s only congressional seat tangled Saturday over money, including taxes, campaign financing and $240,000 in investments by the Republican candidate that financial disclosures link to index funds with substantial holdings in Russian firms that are under sanctions by the U.S. government.

“The investments gave Democrat Rob Quist fresh ammunition to lob at Greg Gianforte during their only televised debate before the May 25 special congressional election. Libertarian Mark Wicks also took part in the debate.

“The sanctions were put in place by the Obama administration three years ago because of Russia’s annexation of Crimea.”
