Last night KCRA sat down with Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones about why the public safety department he leads is running out of money. Below are excerpts from the story.
Jones said [the] service cutbacks are likely to include the jail and other areas.
“In our detective unit, we have someone we pay on call to watch surveillance videos for the robbery bureau,” Jones said. “Well, for now at least in the short term, detectives may have to do that.”
Even the Sacramento Taxpayers Association criticized state of Jones’ budget:
“As a citizen, I’m questioning a couple of things,” STA President Katy Grimes said. “First of all, why is the budget having such a problem at 10 months in?”
When Jones was asked about fiscal management at the department and it running out of money before the July 1 deadline, he replied, “Well, I don’t know why you keep saying I’m running out of money. I mean, we have a $450 million budget.”
