ICYMI: Katko Still Leaves Door Open to Trump as Nominee Dabbles in Birtherism (again)

Donald Trump declined to say yesterday whether he believes President Obama was born in the United States – and Congressman John Katko still hasn’t ruled out supporting Trump.

Not only did President Obama significantly carry Katko’s district twice, but the House Republican is still leaving the door open to supporting Trump should he ‘change his tone.’

But in the words of neighboring Republican Congressman Richard Hanna during a recent interview: “What is there about Donald Trump that makes you think he could be President of the United States?”

“As if it weren’t bad enough that Congressman John Katko continues to leave the door open to supporting Trump, yesterday Donald Trump refused to disavow his birther past, further calling Katko’s judgment into question,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “All this time House Republican John Katko has been pulling the wool over voters’ eyes and it just further shows that ‘Washington’s PAC man’ isn’t standing up for Central New York – he’s just falling in line with Trump and his own party.”

Donald Trump declined to say on Monday whether he believes President Obama was born in the United States.

“I don’t talk about it,” the GOP presidential nominee told reporters, according to NBC News.

Trump, once the leader of the so-called ‘Birther’ movement, has shied away from discussing Obama’s birth certificate this presidential cycle, saying he doesn’t want to give the media material to use against him.
