ICYMI: Koch Brothers Officially Make CO-06 Their #1 House Priority – And It’s Not Because Coffman has Moderated

Denver Post: CO-06 is the only House race targeted by the “organization backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch…”

It’s official, the Koch Brothers are storming in to save Congressman Mike Coffman’s uphill reelection campaign. As anyone who follows politics knows, the Koch Brothers – and more specifically their dark money group Americans for Prosperity – do NOT support candidates with even a semblance of moderation. Mike Coffman is very conservative and the Koch Brothers know it. The problem for them is that Coffman represents a district that twice elected President Obama and is poised to overwhelmingly reject Donald Trump.

“Congressman Mike Coffman’s reelection is so uphill because he is far outside the mainstream of his swing district – it’s really that simple,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “From refusing to denounce Trump’s dangerous candidacy, to speaking to a hate group last year, to voting against the widely bipartisan Highway Bill, the list is endless and the examples are recent. Mike Coffman may have duped the pundits into thinking he moderated a bit, but the jig is finally coming to an end in November.”

KUSA’s evening anchor and ace reporter Kyle Clark went out to Colorado’s 6th District to get a better sense of why the Koch Brothers have made reelection Coffman a top priority. As Kyle Clark aptly frames this unprecedented move: “The deepest pockets in conservative politics are only getting involved in one big race in Colorado race this year: the 6th Congressional District…” Watch the segment.

The Denver Post’s John Frank also dug into their unprecedented efforts: “The Koch brothers are targeting only one congressional race and it’s in Colorado” Frank summed it up well: “The Carroll-Coffman contest is the only U.S. House race in the nation this year to draw attention from the organization backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch…”

The Colorado Independent also took a look at the billionaires’ attempt at buying a seat: “Americans for Prosperity prez will knock on doors himself in a Colorado U.S. House race”.
