ICYMI: Madison Gesiotto Gilbert Double Downs On Her Anti-Choice Extremism

Republican congressional candidate Madison Gesiotto Gilbert is standing by her extreme anti-choice views.

When asked if she believed in exceptions for rape and incest to an abortion ban, Gesiotto Gilbert not only refused to answer, but insisted she would support state laws like Ohio’s life-threatening abortion ban.

Ohio’s six-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest already forced a 10-year-old rape victim to travel out of the state to receive care. What’s more, Ohio Republicans have introduced the Life at Conception Act, which would ban abortion at conception and would have implications for IVF and contraception. This is the world Ohio Republicans have created — and one that Gesiotto Gilbert supports.

This is just the latest in Gesiotto Gilbert’s long line of dangerous anti-choice views:

  • In 2016, she expressed her enthusiastic support for Ohio’s radical abortion ban at six weeks — before most women know they are pregnant — with no exceptions for rape or incest.

  • She has long-supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

  • She made false and racist claims that abortion was the number one killer of Black Americans.

  • Just this year, she accepted an endorsement from Ohio Right to Life, the state chapter of National Right to Life, which released model legislation that proposes a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. The organization’s lawyer also said the 10-year-old Ohio rape victim should be forced to have her baby.

DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre
“Madison Gesiotto Gilbert has made it perfectly clear that she believes the government should have a say in the most personal, private decisions in a woman’s life. A majority of Ohioans believe in the right to choose, but Gesiotto Gilbert will stop at nothing to make sure an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest is the reality all women have to endure.”
