In case you missed it this week, Rep. Peter Meijer is going into panic mode as his seat becomes the “next stop on Trump’s primary warpath” and pressure builds from his Trump-endorsed MAGA opponent, John Gibbs.
Meijer is clearly scrambling to shore up support among the GOP base as pro-impeachment Republicans face bruising primaries across the country, and for good reason – polling shows that Meijer is underwater with Republican primary voters and trailing Gibbs by 18 points. Since then, Gibbs has only continued to gain steam with high-dollar events at Mar-a-Lago and a boost from Trump and Michigan’s MAGA Republican slate in April. And no matter who emerges from the primary, polling confirms that Hillary Scholten is well-positioned to flip this seat blue.
