ICYMI: Mike Coffman Embraces Donald Trump’s Mass Deportations; He Can’t be Trusted to Protect Immigrant Families

In case you missed it, when Representative Mike Coffman was recently asked if he supported President Trump’s harsh stances on immigration – stances that have resulted in the deportation of thousands of law-abiding immigrants – he shamelessly agreed with Trump’s cruelty.

TRANSCRIPT:

REPORTER: “You’re telling me that you support what Trump is doing on immigration because it’s lighting a fire?”

COFFMAN: “It’s the rule of law, yes. And he’s lighting a fire for Congress to act and that’s the signal from the administration.”

He said that Trump’s efforts would “spur” reform in Congress, but we all know that that’s the opposite. Just last week, Republicans in the House Judiciary Committee passed threemass deportation bills that would punish DREAMers regardless of DACA status, create a heavily armed mass deportation force, legalize racial profiling in communities of color, and lead to detentions of U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other legal non-citizens.

And Mike Coffman’s condemnation on his fellow Republicans action? Nowhere to be found.

“For the more than 8 years that Mike Coffman has represented Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, he has always been two-faced on immigration,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Whether he’s calling the DREAM Act a nightmare, humiliating Spanish-speakers by suggesting they take a dictionary to the voting booth, or fully embracing President Trump’s inhumane mass deportation efforts, he has repeatedly stood on the wrong side. Given his record and failed promises, Mike Coffman cannot be trusted to push for real immigration reform that keeps families together.”

Here is how Trump and House Republican’s anti-immigrant actions are being felt in Colorado:
