ICYMI: Mike Garcia Compares Law Enforcement to Nazis

Los Angeles Times: “Trump’s most stalwart backers increasingly use incendiary language, including references to Nazi Germany, to defend the former president.”

Mike Garcia is once again sticking to his extremist MAGA Republican brand, this time by comparing a federal agency to Nazis. Earlier this week Garcia went on a conservative podcast and claimed the FBI search at Mar-a-Lago was “like a Third Reich.”

This is not the first time Mike Garcia has attacked law enforcement. Earlier this year, he called the Capitol Police, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country, ‘the Gestapo.’

DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“Mike Garcia’s repeated attacks on law enforcement are not only shameful, they’re dangerous. From the brave men and women in law enforcement to his own constituents, MAGA Mike Garcia always sides with extremism over the common good.”

  • Referencing the recent FBI search for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of former President Trump, Garcia accused the Biden administration and what he called the “deep state” of “weaponizing federal agencies” for political purposes.
  • But unlike those safely ensconced in a deep red district, Garcia is locked in a hotly contested reelection battle for his northern Los Angeles County district that will hinge on his ability to win over independents and Democrats, not just the GOP base.
  • The redrawn lines made Garcia one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the nation and a top target for Democrats, who see the seat as a rare pick-up opportunity.
  • The Justice Department investigation into Trump continues; a warrant that was unsealed at the request of Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland showed that the former president is under investigation for potential violations of the Espionage Act, which bars the unauthorized retention of material related to national defense, as well as obstruction of justice laws.
  • [Christy] Smith, in an interview with The Times, denounced Garcia’s comments as a “horrific trivialization of the Holocaust” and “a very deliberate attack on the credibility of our governing and law enforcement institutions.”
