In case you missed it, the NRCC is advising GOP candidates in swing districts to not talk about abortion. According to new reporting, NRCC-backed CO-07 candidate Tim Reichert revealed that the NRCC wants candidates to “skirt” the issue of abortion, when he bucked party and campaign advisors’ advice and discussed his extreme stances anyway.
Reichert is not alone in ignoring Republican leaders’ pleas to avoid talking about an issue they know they will lose on every time:
These few are a drop in the bucket when it comes to the onslaught of GOP candidates spewing dangerous, draconian rhetoric about abortion as millions of women fear 50 years of constitutionally guaranteed rights will be ripped away from them if the Supreme Court overturns Roe.
Tom Emmer and Kevin McCarthy have avoided defending their party’s dangerous and unpopular record – so it’s no surprise they are advising candidates to do so as well.
DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla:
“Republicans know their extremism cannot compete with the 80% of Americans who believe women should have control over our own bodies. Unfortunately for the NRCC, we will be relentlessly reminding voters of Republicans’ out-of-touch views until November.”
