ICYMI: Outlets reporting on Ashford’s double digit lead & impressive bipartisan favorability

Yesterday, the Ashford for Congress campaign released a poll showing Congressman Ashford with a 10-point lead over his struggling opponent. Impressively, Ashford has an overall approval rating of 65 percent with a 50 percent approval amongst Republicans. Bottom line: people like Congressman Ashford a lot and they are ready to reelect him in November.

The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball both have this race leaning or tilting towards the Democratic column.

Take a look at some of the coverage…

Democratic Rep. Brad Ashford leads Republican challenger Don Bacon 50 percent to 40 percent in a new poll conducted for the Nebraska Democrat’s campaign by Global Strategy Group, a positive sign for one of House Democrats’ most endangered incumbents.

The Omaha-based 2nd District leans Republican: Mitt Romney won 53 percent of the vote there in 2012, and it is one of the GOP’s few pickup opportunities on the 2016 House map, as Republicans mostly defend their 247-seat majority. But Ashford scores a 50 percent approval rating from Republicans in the district, according to his campaign’s survey, and a 65 percent overall job approval rating.

Ashford is one of the few Democrats the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed. He’s also backed by the National Federation of Independent Business.

The poll gives Ashford a 65 percent job approval and 19 percent disapproval rating.

More Republicans approve (50 percent) than disapprove of his job performance (34 percent), according to the poll. The polling memo did not include favorability numbers for Bacon.

But now that he’s the incumbent, Ashford has certain advantages. He ended June with $1.2 million in the bank compared to Bacon’s $181,000.

Democrats in the state have been touting their success registering voters, which they say gives them a registration advantage in the district’s most populous county.

The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call rates the seat Tilts Democrat.
