Picketers gathered in a “rapid response” to protest the advancement of the American Health Care Act, the proposed Obamacare replacement, that earlier Thursday passed through its first hurdle in Congress.
The bill was approved after an 18-hour debate in the House Ways and Means Committee, which garnered a “yes” vote by committee member U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan, R-7 of Chadds Ford, who was among the first panel to approve the replacement for the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.”
Constituents lined the Meehan’s Springfield office at 940 W. Sproul Road at 1 p.m. on Thursday to plead with Meehan and other Washington officials to find solutions to the GOP-proposed replacement to the ACA.

“I don’t want anything to happen to my benefits,” said Barbara Clarke of Newtown Square, whose high health care costs are subsidized by Medicare for treatment of multiple sclerosis. “Obama put a lot of things in place that helped a lot of people.”
“It scares the hell out of me what’s happened in this country,” said Tom Fitzgerald, 81, of Drexel Hill. “(Meehan) is playing politics and ignoring his constituents.”
[…] “He has not met with us a group and to vote that way without talking to his constituent is disappointing,” Lau said, who with a group called “Radnor Resist” organized a group of a few dozen women to join the Women’s March on Washington in January.
“(The Republican) bill would cover a lot less people and would make premiums more expensive for seniors,” Lau said. “The tax credits don’t make up for the fact that the bill covers less people.”
