ICYMI: Rodney Davis Has Found the Problem and the Problem is Himself

U.S. Congressman Rodney Davis *really* wants you to know the shutdown wasn’t his fault. During the government shutdown many politicians stayed silent, others worked on solutions, but not Rodney Davis.

Rodney Davis sent not one, not two, not three, but FOUR press releases pointing fingers and saying that many people were to blame for the dysfunction in the Republican-controlled Congress, but not him.

“Rep. Rodney Davis has found the problem in Washington, he just hasn’t realized that he’s a part of it. Davis’ constituents are tired of partisan politicians like him who are more concerned with pointing fingers and scoring political points than they are with finding solutions,” said DCCC spokesperson Jacob Peters.

News-Gazette: Davis Rhetoric

By Tom Kacich

Congressman Davis has to decide if he is against the “political rhetoric” he so often scorns or is for it.

“The rhetoric coming from leaders in both parties today about immigration reform does nothing to advance the kind of reforms that are best for America,” he tweeted Jan. 11.

But after the Senate voted to end the government showdown Monday — leaving the immigration debate for another time — Davis issued a statement attacking the upper chamber and Illinois’ two U.S. senators.

What Davis didn’t mention, though, is that Senate Democrats wrung a commitment from Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, to permit debate on a wide-ranging immigration bill.

In contrast to Davis’ rhetoric, Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, had this to say: “No one wins in a shutdown. Thankfully, this one is over. The bill I voted for today was exactly the same as the one I voted for last week with a change in the date. Now the government is open, our military is being paid and children’s health care is paid for and extended for six years. Let’s get to work on a final spending bill and immigration reform. Our constituents expect nothing less.”
