Now we know why Rep. Scott Perry was fleeing in the woods from a local reporter. After finally relenting to “dozens” of requests from local media, the congressman struggled to answer questions outside the right-wing conspiracy orb he traditionally hides in.
In previous interviews, Perry has minimized his role in the events of January 6th and even downplayed the events of that day to angry Pennsylvania voters.
Nothing changed yesterday, when Perry came out of hiding to join two shows in-state: This Week in Pennslyvania & Face The State.
- In both interviews, Perry refused to apologize for his role in January 6th, including his role attempting to oust the Acting Attorney General, lying that 100,000 illegitimate votes “showed up” for Joe Biden, leading “Stop the Steal” rallies, and signing onto a lawsuit to “invalidate millions of votes” in four swing states – including Pennsylvania.
- Perry continued to push the Big Lie and muddy the waters of the election being legitimate, saying in response to a question about his own election: “The questioning [of the election] was, was the election conducted with fairly and with fidelity in accordance with the law? And I think it’s – I think there’s a lot of conjecture that’s reasonable and appropriate to say that it wasn’t.”
- Perry, when pressed about his vote against the bipartisan commission proposed to investigate the attack on the Capitol on January 6th, bizarrely claimed that the bill, which was negotiated by both Democrats and Republicans and supported by Pennsylvania GOP Senator Pat Toomey, was “partisan.” In an even more absurd claim, Perry said that there was “no legislative solution” to investigating and addressing what caused the storming of the nation’s Capitol.
- Perry, the only member of the entire Pennsylvania delegation to vote against the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to address an uptick in crimes committed against Asian Americans, claimed the bill would result in “unequal justice” and that the bill was “divisive” in protecting Asian Americans.
