ICYMI: Scrutiny of Blum’s Broken Salary Pledge Grows

“Congressman Blum seems to be coming unhinged because he was called out for violating his own salary pledge – a pledge that is still on his campaign website,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “The fact that he continues to say that people ‘don’t care’ about his campaign promises is painfully out of touch.”

This past week the Telegraph Herald followed up on their write-up of the bizarre Blum outburst at their editorial board meeting:

Blum’s critics also linked to a recent KGAN-TV interview in which he said his pledge to donate half his salary to charity probably was fulfilled and probably left over from his 2012 campaign. (However, the pledge appeared on his campaign website as recently as Friday).

He recently reiterated for KGAN his contention that voters don’t care about the campaign promises. “I never get asked by a citizen — ever — about these things.”

We all know that Congressman Blum is not handling the scrutiny of his broken salary pledge very well (that’s an understatement, of course). Two additional outlets reported last week on Blum coming unhinged.

The Hill: GOP lawmaker to local editor: ‘You’re looking at me funny’

The bizarre exchange, audio of which was posted online, followed tough questioning from the editorial board about Blum’s controversial tweet this spring wishing an economic recession on Washington, D.C.

Throughout the interview, Blum repeatedly attacked the press for reporting critical stories about his recession remark, as well as the $100,000 his office has spent on constituent mailings.

MSNBC.com: Congressman to journalist: ‘You’re looking at me funny’

It’s the kind of scene one might expect to see in a commercial: as two children bicker, a parent asks what’s wrong. “He’s looking at me funny!” one of the kids cries.

The paper’s executive editor later said he has no idea why the federal lawmaker reacted the way he did.
