ICYMI: Shelter Island Reporter: Zeldin in Trouble

Local Paper Says “Trump, Zeldin Could Be in Trouble in County”

Despite the New York GOP Chairman’s laughable claim this week that “the comeback starts now” for his failed party, local media is indicating that at least one Republican, Lee Zeldin (NY-01), may be in deep trouble.

The 3-term Congressman and regular on Fox News is facing a tough reelection this cycle.

The Shelter Island Reporter wrote that “the defeat of former Suffolk County Republican Chairman John Jay LaValle last week in a race for Port Jefferson mayor — in which Mr. LaValle’s close links to President Trump was a main issue,” may “mean trouble” for Trump and his bestie Lee Zeldin.

Seems like Washington Republicans agree. The NRCC added Zeldin to their list of most vulnerable Republican incumbents earlier this year, signaling that the Congressman is indeed in need of assistance.

“There’s a reason Lee Zeldin is calling in his Washington Republican allies to prop up his struggling campaign,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “The closer Zeldin runs to the fringes on the right, the more vulnerable he becomes. The DCCC is dedicated to making sure this is Zeldin’s last term in Congress.”

The Shelter Island Reporter also notes that Suffolk is changing: Democrats now outnumber Republicans — 358,296 to 329,689, giving Democrats an advantage heading into next November.

The DCCC added Lee Zeldin to its 2020 Offensive Battlefield List in January.
