ICYMI: The Intercept Reveals Schmitt’s Campaign Exaggerated Service Record

New reporting from The Intercept revealed GOP candidate Colin Schmitt’s campaign has played up his service record and referred to him as a veteran based on a loophole.

The Intercept reports that Schmitt’s service would not qualify him “as a veteran under the standards of the National Guard and the New York State Division of Veterans’ Services.”

On top of the National Guard and New York State standards, an Army lawyer called out Schmitt’s exaggeration:

“Traditionally in veterans’ circles, especially when we speak to each other, that type of ‘being activated stateside for 100 and something days’ is not what I and many of my colleagues would consider a veteran,” Box, the Army lawyer, said.

Schmitt’s campaign has touted statements that referred to Schmitt as a “veteran”, yet his campaign “acknowledged” in this report that he did not meet the National Guard’s requirement to be considered a veteran.
