This week, Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa endorsed Rep. Pat Ryan for re-election over his Republican opponent, dangerous MAGA extremist Colin Schmitt, emphasizing the Congressman’s steadfast commitment to public safety.
Sheriff Figueroa cited Ryan’s work as Ulster County Executive, and now in Congress, as clear evidence he supports law enforcement and will continue to ensure communities in the Hudson Valley are safe.
“When it comes to public safety, there’s a lot of good happening in Hudson valley,” said Sheriff Figueroa. “And Pat Ryan is a big reason why.”
DCCC Spokesperson Ian Clarke:
“Pat Ryan has long been a strong supporter of critical public safety initiatives as a County Executive, and has already hit the ground running in Washington to bring home vital resources that Hudson Valley needs. Law enforcement trusts him to keep delivering for their communities.”
While Schmitt and Washington Republicans lie about Rep. Ryan’s record, here are the facts:
-
As County Executive, Pat Ryan prioritized public safety and successfully added law-enforcement professionals to the Sheriff’s Department.
-
Ryan also increased funding for the URGENT violent crime task force, which led to the single largest seizure of illegal guns and drugs in county history.
-
Ryan created community and police partnerships like the AVERT program, which seeks to prevent violent crime, and the ORACLE team, a nationally-recognized effort to address the opioid crisis.
-
Ryan has already continued to make public safety a priority while in Washington. In his first month in Congress, Ryan has already worked to pass the bipartisan “Invest to Protect Act.” This bill secures $300 million of federal funding for small police departments like those in the Hudson Valley.
-
Congressman Ryan also issued $430,000 in funding for a gun violence reduction program and announced a $2.6 million package for the Ulster County Sheriff’s office, the Sullivan County District Attorney’s office, and the Hyde Park Police Department.
-
The support of law enforcement leaders like Juan Figueroa demonstrates that Pat Ryan continues to make public safety a legislative priority rather than a talking point to score political points.
