“Barbara Comstock is already angling for a promotion even before finishing her first full term in Congress. Political calculation is always her first consideration, which is why she took so long to give back money from Donald Trump despite his numerous offensive statements. Northern Virginians deserve a Congresswoman fully committed to the job at hand,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC.

WASHINGTON — Some Democrats say a recent act by 10th Congressional District Rep. Barbara Comstock highlights her ambitions for higher office; some Republicans counter it’s simply prudent.
The divisiveness centers on the first-term Republican’s purchase of Internet domain names such as comstockforsenate.org and barbaracomstockforsenate.com, “apparently in anticipation of her upcoming run for Senate,” a news release from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said.
Comstock is seeking a second term on Nov. 8. Her Democratic challenger is LuAnn Bennett, a real estate developer.
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner’s term does not expire until 2020, and Tim Kaine’s term ends in two years. Both are Democrats.
“She’s already bought those domain names,” Bennett said at the Clarke County Democratic Committee meeting May 3. “That doesn’t show a whole lot of commitment to the 10th District, if you ask me.”
…
However, Geoffrey Skelley, a political analyst with the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said such a move “usually means that they’re exploring their options.”
“It doesn’t mean someone’s going to run, but it can certainly flag that there’s at least some interest,” he said Wednesday. “Running for Senate is an attractive choice if you have the ability to raise money and run that kind of campaign, and I think Comstock does.”
Plus, in a district that is roughly evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, getting elected to a six-year, rather than a two-year, term is appealing, Skelley said.
“Considering the fact that Comstock is looked upon as someone who might have statewide ambitions, this is not at all surprising,” he said.
