Recently, MI-07 GOP candidate Tom Barrett brought fellow extremist Steve Scalise to Michigan for a fundraiser to try to save his failing campaign, which has less than $60,000 cash on hand heading into the final days, showing once again whose agenda Barrett would actually represent in Congress. Scalise has bragged about Republicans’ efforts to gut Social Security and Medicare and has a long history of supporting radical abortion bans. Scalise also spoke at a 2002 white supremacist conference and reportedly compared himself to a former Ku Klux Klan leader.
Barrett has been clear that he is no stranger to extremists and has deep ties to the far right. Barret has hosted rallies with extremist groups like Stand Up Michigan. He’s even headlined for the group’s executive director Tammy Clark, who has described herself as a “domestic terrorist,” repeatedly echoed the Big Lie, and said that the Declaration of Independence allows for the abolition of the federal government.
“Tom Barrett has made it clear from the beginning that if he’s elected to Congress, he will be nothing more than a rubber stamp for the extremist Washington Republican agenda to ban abortion and fight for corporate special interests over Michiganders,” said DCCC spokesperson Matt Corridoni. “Flying in Rep. Scalise for a last-minute cash grab is further confirmation that Barrett is bought and sold by the party bosses and special interests bankrolling his campaign.”
