Junge Has Dodged Health Care Specifics in Two Previous Debates
Michiganders have seen two debates between Rep. Elissa Slotkin and Republican Paul Junge, yet Junge still hasn’t given a straight answer on how he’d expand access to health care and protect people with pre-existing conditions.
Junge’s party is going full steam ahead in its attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which guarantees protections for people with pre-existing conditions, despite being in the midst of a pandemic. Junge’s refusal to explain how he’d maintain these protections if his party is successful in gutting the ACA couldn’t stand in clearer contrast to Slotkin who decided to run for Congress after seeing her mother unable to afford insurance thanks to a cancer diagnosis and has championed multiple efforts to increase access to and affordability for care in Congress.
“Paul Junge knows any attempt to gut protections for Michiganders with pre-existing conditions is politically toxic, so he’s doing everything he can do avoid answering specifics on health care,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice. “Michiganders will see tonight, as they have during the past two debates, that there’s only one candidate on stage committed to ensuring affordable care, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and guaranteeing protections for pre-existing conditions: and that’s Elissa Slotkin.”
