In Florida, House Republicans “Struggle” to Foment Agenda Amid Pissed Off Conference and Devastating Polling Numbers

As House Republicans jet off to Florida in the middle of another war for a pep rally with Donald Trump, struggles persist in crafting a legislative agenda ahead of the midterms.
The Washington Post reports that some Republicans, including Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson, are seeking a second reconciliation bill to build upon the Big, Ugly Law, the least popular piece of legislation passed in modern American history.

Chief among the Republicans’ hopes for a second bill are even more cuts to Medicaid and food assistance.

To make matters worse, Republicans continue to fight with one another, retire at historic ratesunderperform in special elections, and fully support Donald Trump. Here’s where things stand:

  • A new NBC News poll found Democrats are +6 POINTS on the generic ballot headed into November;
  • A House Republican JUST defected from the party, citing the fallout from Trump’s unprecedented gerrymandering scheme that is falling flat;
  • Several swing-district Republicans have announced their retirement, including Darrell Issa and Ryan Zinke;
  • Gas prices are RISING across the country as Republicans continue to unabashedly back Trump’s regime change war in Iran;
  • U.S. payrolls fell by 92,000 in the month of February;
  • ZERO legislative agenda, barring passage of a partisan bill that would hand over voter rolls to DHS.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The weak Republican majority is going down in November.”
