Today, Rep. Michelle Steel shamelessly voted against the America COMPETES Act, which would help ensure America can outcompete China.
Despite Steel’s “tough on China” claims, she voted against the measure that will allow America to create more jobs, strengthen supply chains and reassert our leadership on the global stage.
In failing to support the America COMPETES Act, Steel voted against economy-boosting legislation that will:
-
Reduce rising costs caused by outsourcing and shrink our reliance on China, which will keep our electric grid secure and resilient
-
Reassert America’s technological leadership by investing in domestic manufacturing of semiconductors – an increasingly essential component in everything from computers to cars – which will generate job creation while decreasing consumer prices
-
Advance American research in science and technology by strengthening and diversifying our nation’s STEM workforce
-
Secure America’s global leadership on human rights by taking real, strong action to hold China accountable for its trade abuses and human rights violations
-
Create jobs and strengthen the supply chain by authorizing $45 billion to fix critical components of our supply chain and ensure more goods are made in the US
DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy
“Once again, Michelle Steel is all talk and no action. Her vote against the America COMPETES Act shows Steel is willing to disadvantage our country on a global scale in order to please her party bosses. In voting against critical investments that will create jobs, strengthen supply chains and reassert America’s global leadership, Michelle Steel has sided with China.”
